Pawsitively together: the importance of community and collective impact

As a small business owner, I can confidently say that one of the most rewarding aspects of this work has been the sense of community that has developed around my business and in the rescue community more broadly. At Rainy Day Pets, we specialise in supplying happiness to dogs and their humans everywhere! Our customers are more than just buyers – they are part of a community that share a passion for our cute companions.

Community is essential for any business, but when you’re a small business, it can be especially critical. Running a small business can be quite lonely – you don’t always get unwavering support from the important people in your life. You don’t have colleagues you can bounce ideas around with, or a boss to tell you what to do (which has its pros and cons of course). It’s just you and your passion, which – sometimes – people don’t seem to get.

There have been plenty of times when I wake up not wanting to keep going, thinking I’m not doing enough for this business, or I don’t deserve to achieve anything. Now, when you’re flying solo without a team to spur you on, it can be incredibly difficult to dig deep and find that motivation to keep pushing. It’s thanks to my kind-hearted and wholesome community (if you’re reading this, then that probably includes you!) that keeps me going and drives me to do more and be more for my people (and doggos). When you create a community around your business, you establish so much more than loyalty and repeat customers – you can make friends you never would have met otherwise, and learn plenty of things from the diverse range of people you meet.

At Rainy Day Pets, we have worked hard to foster a sense of community through our social media presence, attending community events, and donating a portion of our proceeds to animal rescues. So far, we’ve managed to raise over $2,000 for charity organisations across the globe. Not only do you, our audience, appreciate these efforts, but we have also built genuine relationships with people who are passionate about the same things we are.

Our community has helped us evolve as a business, too. By interacting with you at community events, chatting on DMs and Facebook groups, I’ve learnt more about what you want to see from Rainy Day Pets. This feedback has helped me to improve our products and services and make better business decisions overall.

Perhaps most importantly, being part of a community has been incredibly rewarding. Nothing gives me a better sense of purpose and fulfilment than feeling connected to the community - and I’m saying that as an introvert! Being part of something bigger than yourself is really quite satisfying, whether you’re a business, prospective buyer or lifelong customer.

At Rainy Day Pets, we are SO grateful for our community of customers and fans. We love hearing from people who have enjoyed our Cuddlepillars, or who have found our content helpful or inspiring. I always appreciate the feedback I receive, and strive to use it to make Rainy Day Pets better every day.

The importance of community cannot be overstated! We are proud to be part of a community of people who share our love of dogs, and we look forward to continuing to grow and connect with others who are passionate about the same things we are. Thank you for being part of our community!
